A Miracle at ATTU: The Rescue of VG-1600 - REVIEWS - 5 Stars

Captain Bill Peterson (USCG ret) with Captain Mike Wallace (USCG ret)

This is a great read detailing a story that too many Coast Guardsmen have forgotten. Having seen the crash site, it is incredible that anyone survived. Captain Peterson does a great job of capturing the risk management that went into the mission planning as well as the harrowing demands of conducting the rescue in the unforgiving Alaskan environment. A welcome addition to my library. ~Lance Benton

When Bill first asked me to review "A Miracle at Attu: The Rescue of CG-1600" I truly didn't know what to expect. I started reading, and could not stop. It made for a long night, but one well worth it. The story is a mesmerizing account of the rescue and a true jaw clincher… I could not walk away from it. The danger and hazards the pilots and crews faced, the decisions that were made at each step, in the risk assessment and the actual environment they were working/flying in at Attu was incredible. This book demonstrates the true passion and courage these brave men showed during a very stressful rescue. It is a chilling, gut wrenching and inspirational account of an impossible rescue. The men and women of the USCG have my utmost respect. Fantastic job Bill and Mike.~ Sgt. Darlene J. Turner, Kodiak Post Commander, Alaska State Troopers (Retired)

This is an incredible story of bravery and perseverance under nearly impossible conditions. Thanks to CAPT Peterson for bringing this story to life. While the book often reads like a SITREP, I found myself captivated by the story and eager to take it all in. A truly amazing feat all around. ~Carolyn Lehneron

Simply an outstanding read. A great example of the tremendous professionalism and service provided by our Coast Guard. Though this event is extraordinary and unique, it is nonetheless representative of the dedication of our Coast Guard. Having served with Bill and even hearing much of the story first hand I don't think I truly appreciated the events until reading his riveting words.~ George Heintzon

A tremendous story and amazing read...one sitting 5 hours. Miracle-Yes! The right Coast Guard personnel and units in the right place at the right time-Yes! The survivor stories are remarkable, especially those who were most severely injured. Those that were able to rehabilitate from their injuries to stay in the Coast Guard and serve till retirement...truly selfless young men. A must read if you want to learn about the Coast Guard and those who serve our nation. Semper Paratus. ~Tfiaon
